Born in 1949, Bernie entered life into a passionate football family, with his father Henry Francis ‘Soapy’ Vallence a great player for Carlton Football Club and a member of their team of the century. His passion for sports and football was carried through his entire life, rivalled only by his care for his family, clients and colleagues.
He leaves behind a wonderful influence and legacy to his wife Robynne and their four children. Bernie displayed great pride that his grandchildren were always keen to visit Poppy and Nanna.
Bernie entered the financial advising industry in the early 1970s when completing tax returns became tedious. The move was driven by a desire to help people improve their financial position rather than just deliver bad news about how much tax they had to pay. He started with our firm in August 1992. Before that he worked with Armstrong Jones 1979 – 1983 and Hartley Poynton 1983 – 1992.
A natural fit within a services industry, Bernie was an incredibly loyal and caring person with an unquestionably strong moral compass. Through many investment cycles, his clients and colleagues alike benefited from Bernie’s stable presence and resilience.
Even in his last days, Bernie was phoning clients and colleagues attempting to ensure everything would continue to be taken care of. Bernie’s genuine, warm and caring personality is already greatly missed.
